Recertification Exam Pricing and Study Material Availability Policy

Modified on Mon, 27 Apr at 9:54 AM

This article outlines the exam pricing structure and recertification pathways for Ciena certifications, specifically OC-A, OC-P, OC-C, CRS-A, and CRS-P. It clarifies eligibility, preparation options, and requirements based on the certification status (expired or not expired).

The objective is to ensure learners clearly understand:

  • What is the recertification price?
  • What options are available if a certification has expired
  • When training is optional versus mandatory

Recertification Exam Pricing Policy

  • The exam pricing remains unchanged for both:
    • Initial certification attempts
    • Recertification attempts
  • There is no special pricing offered specifically for recertification exams.
  • Learners are required to purchase the exam at the standard price, regardless of whether they are certifying for the first time or renewing an existing certification.

Learners with an Expired OC-A or CRS-A Certification

If the certification has expired, learners have multiple flexible options:

  • Direct Exam Attempt
    • Learners may purchase the OC-A/CRS-A exam and attempt it directly.
    • There is no requirement to re‑enroll in training.
  • Optional Training (If Additional Preparation Is Desired)
    •  Learners may choose to enhance their preparation by purchasing:
      • OC-A/CRS-A Web‑Based Training (WBT), or
      • A seat in a Virtual Instructor‑Led Training (VILT) session
  • Free Preparation Resource
    • The OC-A  & CRS-A pre‑assessment is available at no cost
    • This allows learners to:
      • Gauge readiness
      • Identify knowledge gaps
      • Prepare effectively before attempting the exam

Note:
Training for OC-A and CRS-A is optional, even if the certification has expired.

OC-P, OC-C & CRS-P Certification Pathways

If an OC-P, OC-C or CRS-P certification has not expired, learners may purchase the exam and attempt it directly.  There is no requirement to re-enrol in training.

If an OC-P, OC-C or CRS-P certification has expired, learners must meet mandatory requirements:

  • Return to Formal Training
    • Learners are required to:
      • Re‑enrol in the appropriate class.(There is no WBT version of OC-P, OC-C or CRS-P. All three of these are only offered as ILT/VILT.)
      • Complete the required training before recertification.
  • Exam Purchase Requirement
    • After completing the class, learners must:
      • Purchase the exam again
      • Attempt the exam as part of the recertification process

Important Distinction:
Unlike OC-A and CRS-A, expired OC-P, OC-C and CRS-P certifications cannot be renewed by exam‑only attempts.
